INDIANAPOLIS, IN - May 19, 2014 - KV AFS Racing Sebastian Saavedra has qualified for the 98th running of the Indianapolis 500, May 25, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, IN.

Under the new 2014 Indy 500 qualifying format, Saavedra was assured a spot in the race after Saturday's first round of qualifying when he placed his No. 17 KV AFS Racing car 26th on the speed charts. However, it wasn't until yesterday that he knew where he would be starting.

All times from Saturday were erased and the order for group one was the reverse of Saturday's rankings. Therefore, Saavedra went out eighth for his one qualifying attempt and posted a four lap average of 228.088 mph which puts him 32nd on the grid.

"I am disappointed for sure," said Saavedra. "We did some changes Saturday night which apparently showed on the data we could gain a mile per hour but instead we lost a couple, which hurt us a lot in our qualifying effort. It's a little more painful because the KV AFS guys have done such a fantastic job, given their lives to this car this last week and to not be able to show all their hard work is heart breaking. This is just the beginning and we need to focus on the race, which is what matters.  I have full faith that we have a great race doesn't matter where you start, its where you finish and keeping a cool head and doing the right things will mean we will be upfront and that's what we need to focus on."

This is now the fourth time Saavedra has qualified for the Indianapolis 500. His first Indy 500 was in 2010 at age 19 and in his three previous attempts he has a best start of 24th in 2012 and a best finish of 23rd in 2010.

The 23-year-old, from Bogota, Colombia has been among the youngest drivers in nearly every series he has competed in. He joined the Firestone Indy Lights just before his 19th birthday and that year was awarded Rookie of the Year Honors with AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport. He moved to Bryan Herta Autosport for 2010 where he made his Indianapolis 500 debut becoming the third Colombian driver to do so. Saavedra then stepped up to the IndyCar Series in 2011 with Conquest Racing before returning to Indy Lights in 2012. Last year he spent the entire season back in IndyCar with Dragon Racing.

The 2014 Indianapolis 500, will be broadcast live on ABC from 11 am (ET) on May 25th. IMS Radio Network coverage is augmented by real-time Timing & Scoring on and the INDYCAR 14 app. The IMS Radio Network broadcast also can be heard on network affiliates, XM 209 and Sirius 213.
